I never leave home without travel insurance. After more than 15 years on the road, I have learned firsthand how important it is. Not only has it helped me cope with lost luggage, canceled flights and medical emergencies, but it has also helped countless friends and readers of my blog.
However, travel insurance is a boring topic to read about. No one likes to compare plans and read policies. Including me. This is the least exciting part of trip planning.
Fortunately, finding a Plan and a policy adapted to your needs and your budget has never been easier. More and more companies make it possible to quickly and easily obtain a quote, subscribe to a Plan, read the fine print and file a complaint.
What is free?
Free is a travel insurance and security application. Like many insurance companies, it offers coverage so that you can be healthy if something happens (for a covered reason) while you are on the go. The basic plan includes all the essentials that I look for in an insurance policy, including emergency medical care, emergency evacuation coverage, trip interruption, lost luggage and 24/24 and 7/7 help.
But libre also does a few things differently.
Frei keeps its basic insurance affordable by not including additional coverage that you may not need. However, you can upgrade to get additional coverage for your equipment, for example if you bring valuable electronics or sports equipment. This is a big plus, because most travelers bring a mobile phone or a laptop (often both).
With most other plans, your equipment is only covered up to 500 per item. This Option allows you to extend your Plan for free to cover your equipment up to 1,500 per item.
But what is really useful (and unique) is the daily Boost supplement from Freely.
Daily Boosts are insurance supplements for things that you don’t need every day, such as skiing, car rental or skydiving. Paying for these add-ons only when you need them (daily) will ensure that your policy will remain inexpensive overall, but you will get the coverage you need when you need it.
For example, snow or adventure activities cost only 1 per day, while rental car protection is 15 per day (prices vary by state). If you only ski a few days of your trip or if you don’t rent a vehicle for your entire vacation, the daily Boost will ensure that you don’t pay for what you don’t need.
What covers freely?
Free policies have a fairly wide scope. Currently, the plans include coverage for the following:
Emergency Medical Expenses
This is the most important element of any insurance plan. This is what comes into play when you fall down a flight of stairs and break your leg or are respectized because you are hit by a car, get sick, etc. in short, if you are sent to the respect or to a doctor, you will receive emergency medical care.
I always recommend that travelers have at least 100,000 in coverage, because respect bills add up quickly. Offers 500,000 in free coverage for the basic plan. This is a high limit and can cover you for anything the road puts in your way.
Emergency evacuation and repatriation
Medical evacuations and emergency evacuations can be incredibly expensive. These may be necessary if you get health issue while hiking and need to be airlifted to the respect or if you need to be repatriated to your home country.
Incidents like this can cost up to 250,000, which is enough to put most travelers out of business. Fortunately, Freely’s basic insurance covers up to 1,000,000 for emergency evacuations. This is more than many other insurance companies offer in matter you need an emergency evacuation.
Dental Emergency Expenses
I am always looking for travel insurance that covers emergency dental care. Offers 1,000 in free emergency insurance in its basic plan. This does not mean that you can have a dental examination If you have cavities or if you want a cleaning, but that you can consult a dentist if you experience an unforeseen emergency or sudden pain during your trip.
Accidental expired and dismemberment
No one wants to think about the worst matter scenario of dying on the road (I certainly don’t), but knowing that your insurance policy can cover these eventualities offers a lot of security. For example, the police pay 50,000 for accidental expired, which (so as not to become too morbid) will probably be useful to your loved ones if the worst happens.
